The Nairobi Snake Park shares a site with the National Museum and holds a living collection of East African reptiles covering nearly everything venomous in the country: black mamba, green mamba, puff adder, Gaboon viper, spitting cobra and rock python among them, alongside crocodiles, tortoises and a spread of lizards.
There is more to it than the thrill. Snakebite remains a serious rural health problem in Kenya, and the park puts real effort into public awareness: which species are dangerous, which are harmless, how to tell one from the other, and what to actually do if someone is bitten. An hour covers it comfortably, and the museum is a few steps away. Entrance fees, hotel transfers, drinking water and a guide are included.
