Serengeti National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose name comes from the Maasai word for endless plains. Spanning the Mara and Simiyu regions of northern Tanzania, it forms the northern half of the wider Serengeti-Mara ecosystem shared with Kenya’s Maasai Mara.
The park is world famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, when more than two million wildebeest and zebra move in a continuous circuit across its grasslands. Outside migration season, Serengeti National Park holds some of Africa’s strongest resident populations of lion, leopard and cheetah, so every game drive still carries real odds of an exceptional sighting.
