Being on foot changes what you see. The Nairobi Safari Walk is a raised timber boardwalk at the main gate of Nairobi National Park, and because it carries you slightly above ground level, animals that would be distant shapes from a vehicle are suddenly at eye level. It suits families with young children, and it suits anyone who arrived in Kenya without a long lens.
The route moves through wetland, savannah and forest sections. White rhino, pygmy hippo, albino zebra, bongo, cheetah and leopard are among the residents, and there is a large walk-through aviary partway along. Interpretive panels explain how Kenya’s ecosystems fit together and what the Kenya Wildlife Service is doing to hold them together. Allow around two hours at an unhurried pace. Entrance fees, transfers, drinking water and a guide are included.
