Karen Blixen ran a coffee plantation below the Ngong Hills from 1917 to 1931, and the farmhouse she lived in is now a museum. She wrote Out of Africa here, publishing it as Isak Dinesen, and the suburb that grew up around the property still carries her first name.
The house has been left much as she kept it, with original furniture standing alongside pieces used in the 1985 film. Guides take you room by room through her years on the farm, her relationship with Denys Finch Hatton, and the failure of the coffee business that eventually sent her back to Denmark. From the garden you look out at the hills where Finch Hatton is buried. Entrance fees, hotel transfers, drinking water and a guide are included.
