Our most thorough run at the northern circuit, reaching the parks that shorter itineraries have to leave out. The Kenyan half covers the Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha with Hell’s Gate, and Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro, so you get savannah, soda lakes, a Rift Valley gorge and spring-fed swampland before you even reach the border.
In Tanzania the route works through Lake Manyara, down into the Ngorongoro Crater, on to the Serengeti and finally Tarangire, which most itineraries skip and which has the densest elephant population and the oldest baobabs on the circuit. Drinking water, three meals a day on safari, all park entrance fees, two nights in Arusha on bed and breakfast, and return transport from Nairobi are included. Thirteen days is what it takes to cover this without long transfers between one-night stops.
