The Ngorongoro Conservation Area protects the world’s largest intact, unfilled volcanic caldera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tanzania’s Arusha Region. Its steep walls enclose a natural amphitheater roughly 260 square kilometres wide, holding one of the densest concentrations of wildlife anywhere in Africa.
With some of the highest predator densities on the continent, including a resilient population of black rhino, the crater floor offers some of Africa’s most reliable Big Five sightings within a single day. Grassland, swamp and soda lake keep wildlife here year-round.
